06 · Questions

Business associates and the limits of a BAA

The agreement matters. So does what happens after you sign.

Does every healthcare vendor need a BAA?

No. HHS says the need depends on whether the vendor creates, receives, maintains, or transmits PHI on your covered entity's behalf. We record the service and data access so your team can make that call.

Can we assess subcontractor exposure?

Yes. We map relevant providers behind your direct vendor. Under applicable HIPAA rules, a business associate has its own subcontractor obligations.

Does Coverbase certify HIPAA compliance?

No. We connect the agreement, evidence, and changes for your reviewers; your healthcare team makes its own HIPAA compliance decisions.
