01 · Overview

What FedRAMP is and who it touches

FedRAMP is a US government authorization program, given statutory footing by the FedRAMP Authorization Act of 2022. It isn't a voluntary framework. It applies to cloud service providers selling to federal agencies. Federal agencies must use FedRAMP-authorized offerings. Its 2025 “FedRAMP 20x” modernization aims to make authorizations faster and more automated.

02 · Requirements

What FedRAMP involves

  1. 01

    NIST SP 800-53 control baselines

Authorization is built on Low, Moderate, or High control baselines, including the Supply Chain Risk Management (SR) family.
  2. 02

    Independent assessment (3PAO)

    Accredited third-party assessors verify a provider's controls.
  3. 03

    Continuous monitoring

Authorized providers maintain ongoing monitoring and reporting, not a one-time review.
  4. 04

Supply chain risk management (SR) controls

Authorized offerings implement the SR control family, which covers supply chain risk plans, acquisition, and supplier assessments.
03 · How Coverbase helps

Manage the vendors behind your own service

06 · Questions

FedRAMP boundary questions

An offering's authorization and your supplier work are separate.

Is every service from an authorized provider in scope?

No. Look up the specific cloud service offering and its documented boundary in the FedRAMP Marketplace.

How do we handle a new subservice?

We link the new dependency to its supplier evidence and the offering's control owner, so the team can review its impact.

Can Coverbase grant FedRAMP authorization?

No. We are not an authorization path or a 3PAO. We run supplier review around your offering's boundary.
